The Importance of a Professional Profile Portrait in Business
As leading Corporate Photographers we understand how crucial it is to portray the right image.
All too often we see the same tired, unprofessional images being used over and again; badly lit, unflattering and of poor quality.
So, is it time to review your Corporate Profile Image? Do you have one? Is it professional?
We see before we read!
People are very visual creatures. You only have a couple of seconds to grab someone’s attention and hold it. Knowing this, you can’t underestimate the power of strong professional imagery for your business.
Have you been asked to supply an up to date professional photograph of yourself for:
- Press/Media
- Interviews
- Social Media/LinkedIn
- Company Website
- Appointment notices
- Company Brochures/Annual Reports
When was the last time you had a good look at your profile picture? Does it match the image you are trying to portray?
Remember, first impressions count, and people do business with people they trust so be sure that your picture conveys the impression of the warm, professional, friendly person that you really are.
Your head-shot is one of the most important elements of your online profile. A good first impression encourages the viewer to read the rest of your profile.
Have an actual photo!
No one will take you seriously if you have the default silhouette.
Your profile picture can be one of the most important elements of your LinkedIn presence. Nicole Williams, LinkedIn’s Connection Director, believes you should always post a picture – the site’s own research finds that profiles are “seven times more likely to be viewed” if a photo is included.
This means that this little, square image is your first chance to make a good impression.
Get A Professional Headshot!
When discussing top tips for jobseekers, International HR Director EMEA of LinkedIn, Connie Gibney reveals “This is pretty simple, load a professional photo on your profile!”
Professional imagery for your business is an important investment
Hire a professional to take your shot. They will get the lighting right, coach you to achieve a good expression and organise a makeup artist if required.
People can tell if you snapped a selfie or cropped yourself out of a group shot.
The images, which you receive, should be seen as a return on investment. These images can be used in a number of different ways in a number of different mediums. For example – on your Company website, LinkedIn profile, press/media, etc.
Having all your staff photographed in the same way sends out a powerful message about the strength and unity of your company
As professional photographers specialising in professional headshots and executive portraits, we’ve learned a few lessons along the way about how to create a strong profile picture.
Here are a few guidelines to help you when you are having a business profile portrait taken:
- Look smart
You must be well groomed. Your clothes should reflect the type of business you are in. If suits are required, wear one or if your business favours a more casual type of clothing, then dress accordingly - Keep it simple
Plain, classic style clothing works best. Avoid stripy/patterned shirts or ties, plain and simple works best - Have a photo that looks like you
Make sure your profile picture is up-to-date (within the past few years) and reflects how you look on a daily basis – your current hairstyle, glasses, makeup, etc. - Choose an image that you will use across all your social networks and blogs
You should use the same profile picture across all your social networks, certainly across all your social media profiles that are connected with your professional life or marketing activity.
This quickly establishes you in the eyes of others as the same individual on one network as you are on the other. It also helps reinforce your brand, the repetition and continual reproduction of the image only strengthening its familiarity and recognition
